Choose an account for automatic login
Jul 24, 2011 Even after a clean install of OS X Lion, I am still prompted to enter my password anytime I move or delete files or folders. However, thus far it is only occurring with files that were created to, saved to, downloaded to, or residing upon my desktop in the prior installation of OS X Lion that no longer exists on my Mac. I am exploring this further. Jan 19, 2018 This goes as far back as Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Enter the password for this folder twice, and click Choose. If you'd like. Just don't delete that.DMG file! And just like a folder. Jan 17, 2014 3: Use the Installer CD or DVD — Up through 10.6 Snow Leopard, if the Mac had only the original administrator account, and resetting the password via the command line was too scary, you could use the original Mac OS X Install disc instead. (Actual snow leopards may be endangered, but installer discs went extinct with 10.7 Lion, so this method is only for older Macs.). Lost or forgot Windows 7 password on your Mac and don’t have a reset disk? There are many Windows password recovery tools (such as Ophcrack, Offline NT Password & Register Editor) that could be used to crack Windows 7 password on a PC, but the major issue is that they are incompatible with Mac EFI Firmware.
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
- Click the lock , then enter the account password.
If you aren't logged in as an administrator, you're asked to enter an administrator name and password. - Click Login Options in the lower-left corner.
- Choose an account from the “Automatic login” menu, then enter the password of that account.
The account is now set up to log in automatically when your Mac starts up. You might still be asked to log in manually after logging out, switching back from another user account, or locking your screen.
If automatic login is unavailable

When manual login is required, the “Automatic login” menu is dimmed or doesn't show the account name. For example:
- If FileVault is turned on, manual login is required for all accounts. You can turn FileVault off.
- If an account uses an iCloud password to log in, manual login is required for that account. You might also see the message “A user with an encrypted home folder can't log in automatically.” When changing the account password, you can choose not to use the iCloud password.
